What We Do

We run a summer camp for boys and girls aged between 5 and 14. The camp runs for a week in August when a big gang of enthusiastic young helpers and experienced trainers treat the kids to a combination of skills, drills, games and matches in all 4 sports of the GAA:

  • Hurling / Camogie
  • Gaelic Football
  • Handball
  • Rounders

What We’ve Done

We’ve run the camp in each of the last 9 years. We had 187 camp-goers the first year, 275 the second year, 323 in 2019, 275 in 2020, 334 in 2021 with Covid restrictions, 301 in 2022, 341 in 2023, 204 in 2024 and 134 last year.

We’ve had visits from Stephen Cluxton, Eoin Murphy, Ger Aylward, Walter Walsh, TJ Reid, Eoin Larkin, Dessie Hutchinson, Alan Murphy, Shane Murphy, Mikey Butler, Cian Kenny, David Blanchfield, Eoin Cody, Tom Mullally, Rackard Coady and Brian Cody. Tadhg Furlong also generously donated a signed shirt which we raffled.

We’ve had kids come to the camp from all over South Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford, Laois, Cork, Dublin, Maynooth, London, Wales and France.

What We’ve Raised

We have raised over €67,000 for Glenmore Camogie Club, GAA Club & Handball Club over the past 9 years.

This year the proceeds will go to Glenmore GAA Club and Glenmore Handball Club.

We also get €5 donated to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin for each child that attends the Camp which has resulted in €17,500 being donated to this worthy cause over the eight years.

“Absolutely fantastic camp, art, crafts, hurling, football, handball, all people involved did a great job. Well affordable at half the price of other camps. Highly recommend.”

About Sonny

Sonny is the inspiration for the camp.

He would surely have spent a lot of his time at Glenmore GAA pitch had he not been cruelly deprived of this opportunity.
